With all the negative press Louisiana has been generating over the last several years concerning racial issues, it is good to see rational minds come together and talk about the lessons learned from the past. On February 12, 2009, New Orleans became the setting for Plessy and Ferguson, not Plessy versus Ferguson (to steal a line from Katy Reckdahl, reporter for the Times-Picayune). Descendants of Homer Plessy and John Ferguson came together to commemorate the landmark 1896 case with a plaque place at Press Street, where the East Louisiana Railroad once operated.

The dedication on the Plaque was written by Keith W. Medley, an author this site has generously used to discuss Plessy.(Katy Reckdahl, the Times-Picayune, February 11, 2009.)
