Civil Rights Act of 1866

The following is the Civil Rights Act of 1866. This Act provided citizenship for blacks, along with certain rights. According to Brooks Thomas, the idea was to "have the entire country adopt the northern economic system" (1).It was bold and drastic and possibly unconstitutional, and so the Congress extended their efforts with the Fourteenth Amendment passed only two years later.

This is not the entire Act, but really highlights the intentions of Congress. The entire Act can be found on several sites on the web, including the one I used, which is listed in the footnotes bleow.
